LINKs
Okay, I know links pages are passe. But I can't help it. Because if you really, really like green chiles, then you really, really need to get yourself to New Mexico. And when you get to New Mexico, you have to check these places out.
I think my all-time favorite is Cafe Pasqual's, better known as just "Pasqual's." Their food is the best around. With Euro-style seating and food that will make you salivate (not to mention wine made only from organic/sustainably grown grapes), plan to wait outside in line for a long time, especially if headed there for breakfast or lunch. It's so worth it.
Another favorite (probably better for dinner, in my opinion), is The Shed. This place is world renowned for its red chile enchiladas and other blue corn specialties (don't worry, addicts, they have loads of green chile specialties, including their amazing green chile stew and Shed corn chowder).
I almost feel like a traitor to my addiction by adding El Farol to this list. It's a cool little joint on Canyon Road that features delicious Spanish food and amazing live entertainment. There's not a green chile on the menu -- except, wait for it! -- green chile Bloody Mary's. What? They have an awesome bar, Euro-style seating (you will meet new friends there), and flamenco dancers that will knock your socks off. You may need a few extra frosty beverages to cool you off during the performance.
Back on the green chile train. Maria's Santa Fe is, quite simply, awesome. Although a bit off the beaten path, they have their own multi-page margarita menu with prices that range from less than $10 for their house marg, to upward of $50 for their specialties. And there are about 98 margaritas between those two price points. Did I mention their food is really good? And you have to love a place that has tequila dinners for special occasions
Traveling to Taos, now, for a little green chile beer. That's right. Green. Chile. Beer. There are probably several places in Taos that serve it, but I get my GCB on at Eske's Brew Pub. Their green chile beer gets an 86 rating from Beeradvocate, which apparently means "very good." I'm not sure about their food, because once I experienced CHILE IN BEER, I wasn't interested in eating.
Back in Albuquerque, Dion's makes a mean pizza. For vegetarians, the cheese with green chiles can't be beat. For meat lovers, try pepperoni and green chile or the Duke City gourmet pizza with turkey, cheddar, green chile and parmesan cheese.
Still in Albuquerque, Blake's Lotaburger makes an amazing green chile cheeseburger. Just look at the picture. It's not fast food. Okay, it is, but it's so good you'd never know. For vegetarians craving a little grease, their chile cheese fries are the bomb. Best thing on their menu: you can add Hatch Valley Green Chile to anything. "Packed exclusively for Blake's Lotaburger and registered with the New Mexico Department of Agriculture." There you have it.
There are so many more, I can't possibly mention them all. These are my faves.
